Cameraless film: Dance with me.
Taking inspiration from past students works this film piece was created through the use of nail polish and scratching straight onto clear 16mm film celluloid in order to create a sense of rhythm. At the beginning of this project I experimented with painting different patterns using paint and nail polish, as well as different scratching techniques on both found film and clear leader. This trialling gave me a sense of what would and wouldn’t work, and it was decided to just use nail polish, as the paint was too thick. Once the film had been recorded, i edited the footage in an attempt to arrange the film in a way that would represent a dramatic dance sequence. This was achieved by manipulating the speed, adding freeze frames and using cuts and through using a contrasting tempo and contrasting colour with monochrome.
